Puppy training tips needed!?
So… this is my first puppy… I’ve adopted dogs in the past and trained them just fine, but I have no idea where to start with this puppy… she doesn’t respond the same as the dogs have, she doesn’t like treats, she doesn’t understand when i tell her good girl, or bad girl, i just need some puppy training tips from anyone who has done this before, i’m open to anything and everything positive, i’ve tried correcting her and punishing her before, and she does not respond well to punishment, she thinks i’m always mad at her when i’m not, so i need positive training help. things like "come, sit, stay, shake" not chewing on trash or the furniture, leash training, crate training, etc… i bought a book, that didn’t seem to help much, it wasn’t very personal, so if anyone wants to let me know any of their secrets, that would be amazing, thanks everyone!!!! <3 <3 <3
Puppies aren’t like dogs. They don’t retain what your telling them and they dont understand your words. It will take probably a year to train a puppy properly if you put a lot of time and effort into it. This is because there brain is to small to remember things. One way you can teach them is by show them what to do. When you say shake put her paw on your hand and shake her paw. This way she knows what you mean. Then ask her again and do the same as before. The third time you do it place her paw in your hand and shake it but praise her. Then it’ll start to click. Do this over and over and then in a month start letting her place her paw in your hand if she hasn’t started already. The same works for come sit and stay. You make her do the action give her love for letting you show her. Then you keep it up till she gets the hang of it. By the 3 or 4 month she should start being enforced with negative reinforcements along with positive. When she doesn’t respond simply don’t let her lick you and act like your ignoring her this will make he realize what she did is bad. The best treat to a puppy is love.
tips, tricks, secrets, and methods please!?
i had a german shepherd for 9 1/2 years when he passed away this spring and i would like to get another dog cause i liked the house more when there was a dog around it was just so much more enjoyable. and i have been researching for a few weeks and decided on a chocolate lab.
any information, tricks, tips, secrets, methods, ect. to raising a dog, potty training, ect. and just about dogs in general. im pretty prepared but i just want to see what else there is to know because all the websites have the same message basically just worded different or just one step different, i want to know what worked and what didnt for you guys. thanks.
its been so long since we had a puppy i just want some refreshers and just advice.
um i groom dogs with my aunt and i have been around several chocolate labs and they are all these big huge hyper things and one of them even jumps on the door and they are crazy. I don’t know for sure that yours would be like that but with my experience id say there’s a pretty good chance of it turning out like that, but if you do get one and properly train it and give it the proper amount of exercise it will be perfectly fine. my advice is to read Cesar Millan’s books if you do everything he says you will have a very well behaved dog. I’d read Be the Pack Leader, Cesar’s Way, and A member of the Family. Just read those books and you’ll be doing great.

How to train my Blue Tick Coon hound?
I have a one and a half year old blue tick coon hound. He is just about the sweetest dog but I cant figure out the secret to training him. He does know sit, down, and shake but only seems to do them when you have food, or he’s in a good mood. He has figured out how to open the gate to his pen in the backyard, and will just take off. I know it would be near impossible to train him to never run away, but i the process to get him back was easier it would be a big help. Also he barks at everything. There is a baseball field across from our house, and I don’t know if he is territorial, but he always barks and growls at the people there (he has never EVER bitten or been aggressive to anyone) PLease don’t say he barks out of boredom because he gets 2 LONG walks a day and an occasional run every other day, he comes inside to relax a lot, and has plenty of time with us to play outside. Finally, there is a HUGE dog park near my home. It has a mini forest, trails, and a large pond, and I would love to take him there. But I only want to take him if I know he will listen for I don’t want to be chasing him all over this huge place. I’m not expecting him to be a perfectly behaved dog, but he gets distracted so easily that I don’t know what to do… does he need to go to classes or can I train him at home. (I have another dog, shiba inu mix, that we trained also so we have some experience, just not with this rowdy of a dog. The shiba inu never leaves the yard, never barks, and is pretty perfect majority of the time) Thanks so much…
If you’ve done any research at all, you would know that Bluetick Coonhounds are hunting dogs, they are hounds, so they are focused on scent. They were originally bred in the U.S. to trail/track and tree raccoon.
Yes, the best way to teach a hound anything is by food. Unless you get a reliably recall on him, you will never be able to take him off leash. Do not leave your coonhound in the yard unattended, because as you are learning, they are very bright and will do anything to follow a trail.
Why can’t you take him and have him on leash. Oh and don’t compare a Shiba Inu to a hound. Their 2 different breeds, with two different purposes…apples and oranges. Sorry, but you don’t have experience, not with a hound.
You need to google Bluetick Coonhound and do some serious research.
Just as a heads up, though hounds may be very stubborn, they will learn anything with force. Find a class that uses positive motivation.
