Paw Targeting – how to teach tricks dog training clicker training

This video is a how to video on how to teach your dog to target an object with his front paws. This is not only a great game to teach your puppy or dog how to learn to learn, but it is the foundation for many behaviors and tricks. Tricks with this foundation include- wave, shake , high five, standing up, hands up, close the door, cop cop, say your prayers, descrimination, freestyle foot work and more.
Check out zsianz1 ’s video on how to teach a high five using this technique!

Take care with large breed dogs or dogs who have sharp toe nails as you can get slapped. Perhaps teach shake down the line when you have more experience as a trainer so that your large dog doesnt learn to paw at you as their favorite behavior. The great thing about the technique that I am using is that the dog isnt learning to paw at your skin, but at an object, so you can get that on stimulus control before it is just your arm (for very large and powerful dog breeds). You can also click them fore being gentle before you switch to using just your hand for shake.

Canine Good Manners DOGumentary:rehabilitating and training a foster dog (now adopted)

Lexi Hayden’s Fine-tuned Canines http://www.Fine-tunedCanines.com presents a real world dog training movie showing the former rescue dog, Cody, the Golden Retriever, and his good dog manners and socialization experiences. Cody was fostered and trained by Lexi Hayden, a professional dog training instructor and canine behavior specialist and now lives with his new forever family.

The movie’s purpose is to encourage and inspire dog owners to train their dogs and show that well-behaved, well-trained, balanced dogs can enjoy sharing activities with their people. The movie also shows the benefits of having disciplined, balanced, well-mannered dogs.

Lexi Hayden (http://www.Fine-tunedCanines.com) is a proud member of the IACP (International Association of Canine Professionals).
Before being fostered and trained by Lexi Hayden (http://www.Fine-tunedCanines.com), Cody had no skills and was brought to a kill shelter by a former owner, because Cody pulled on a leash. With Lexi, Cody learned a lot of obedience skills, tricks, K9 Freestyle elements, agility elements, manners. We worked on distraction proofing, building focus and self-control skills, etc.

House train puppy?

We are getting a pupply and would appreciate suggestions on how to house train it. We plan to be home with it full time during the firs week. After that during four days of the week someone will be home every two hours during the day and all time after 4pm. The other three days someone will be home at all times. How do you suggest we house train it regarding going to the bathroom? thanks.

Where is your puppie going to be going to the toilet? Will you train to go in one spot in the house or outside?
If it is inside, make sure you show you pup where to go and when he/she uses it give lots of praise and a treat. Watch your pup for signs such as smelling the ground and walking in circles, if you see this behaviour then pick up the pup and put it in the toilet so he/she knows this is where to go.
It is hard work and can be frustrating but if you have patience then you’ll do fine.
If the dog is going outside for toilet breaks ensure to take him/her outside every 30 minutes for a few minutes, when outside I found standing still and not making any eye contact or talking to the pup so as not to distract seemed to work, otherwise they think it is play time. It might take a minute or it may take 5 mins but generally they get the message and go. As soon as the pup does it’s business give it a treat and lots of praise. They will soon get the hint and you’ll have him/her housebroken in no time.
Good luck.
