How do I train my puppy to run parallel?
I just got a 3 month old pure GSD, I want it to be the kind of dogs that runs parallel to you (which it is having trouble doing…it likes coming in the middle somehow) and stops and sits when you stop. Eventually I even want to let it off to the leash to that it knows how it should run…but as for now this is my goal. Also any other tips on how I can train it to be a personal protection dog. Thanks
Formal obedience training teaches a good heel, 3 months is about right to start a fun puppy obedience class, though his little brain won’t have the attention span or maturity to really do anything serious until he is 12-24 months old. A professional trainer who can provide the hands-on, step-by-step solutions is really what you need, someone who’s "been there" with a lot of dogs and has a full "tool box" of remedies to common problems. They will be able to see and correct problems as they occur in class and help you know what’s normal and what’s not as your puppy grows and learns.
Good luck!

But, if you do your homework, you can control your dog in any situation. Training every day with your dog can be fun for both you and your dog. Establishing good learning habits with these few commands lays the foundation for further learning. This is fun for your dog–he’s not going to read a book or watch tv–interacting with you is the major part of his life and training is the interface for the interaction
