How to house train puppy fast?

I have a 9 week old Pomeranian/Papillion mix puppy (mostly acts like a Pomeranian) and I need some tips to potty train her? (We are training her on one of those indoor grass potty patches) She is doing pretty well, but doesn’t exactly understand the concept of going #2 on the grass patch. She goes tinkle on it great, but the #2 part … I really need some tips (I know the typical, love her and give her treats her when she goes on the patch, move her to it when she sniffs around on the ground etc.) Help please? :)
And the grass patch is great.. She still goes on real grass people! Sheesh!

Try this. At 9 wks old I’m sure your puppy is eating two to three times a day. Immediately after the puppy walks away from her food bowl, showing she is done, take her to where you want her to go to the bathroom. I used to even rub their bellies a bit, to get things moving! Wierd, I know, but it works! Once you get to where the "potty" is, tell to "hurry up. Make poopy." Alsop sounds weird, but it worked! It takes patience but it will happen! IMy puppy, now 3 yrs old, never had an accident!! Good Luck!

How can I train my puppy to sit?

I have a 8 week old chihuahua. When I try the suggestions online on how to train him, it mostly doesn’t work. Every time I have a treat for him he just jumps up and tries to get it. When I try putting a little pressure on his bottom he always ends up biting me no matter what!

I went to a puppy class, and the teacher taught a puppy to sit in literally less than a minute. It took mine about a minute too (at 10 weeks old)

She had a clicker (you don’t really need this, just say "good girl" where I say "click"). Don’t force the dogs bum down, that will take forever to teach that way, he won’t understand it. Work with very small treats, you don’t want to make your puppy sick, and you want the puppy to immediately eat it, not chew on it forever, it will forget what it’s there to do, to sit.

First, she gave the dog a treat to get it’s attention, so the dog knew what it was working for.
She stood up straight, waited for the dog to sit, "click" then gave dog treat.
Wait for dog to get up and then sit back down again "click" and treat. Do this again and again ten times in a row, or until puppy gets tired or stops doing it.

Do this before your puppy’s meal and after exercise (playing), so he’s nice and hungry and has to work for food. The exercise will tire him out and make him more attentive. You can probably do it with just kibble instead of treats even, that’s what I did.

Be patient and confident, your dog will pick up on frustrated energy and get all excited.
Also, your dog is only 8 weeks old so it may take a bit longer.

Once you’ve gotten this down, teach the dog to lay down the same way. This will take much longer and even more patience!

Secrets to Dog Training?

Confidence, consistency, and patience.

Confidence because dogs pick up on low confidence, anxiety, and similar feelings and many will not follow a leader who is not confident in his own leadership skills. In the animal world that’s generally suicide.

Consistency because dogs learn by repetition. Trying something for a while then giving up and switching to something else because it’s "not working" will only confuse the dog in the long run, or bore it.

Patience because, again, dogs learn by repetition. Giving up because you’re bored or its’ "not working" isn’t doing you or your dog any favors. One must have enough patience and understanding of how a dog learns and what motivates it.

Also add in there a basic understanding of canine psychology. A basic obedience training book from the library will probably teach you most of what you need to know. You’d be surprised how easy it can be. Just be patient and consistent, and above all, don’t give in to your dog if he’s being a pill. Just shrug and walk away if you get frustrated, but don’t get mad at the dog. Once you reach a level of instability like yelling or hitting your dog stops seeing you as any viable leader, at least for that moment, and you effectively undermine all your efforts to train.

Urgently need help training a puppy to be quiet?

My family lives in a duplex and my dad just bought a 4mo GSD puppy we have only had her 2 days and the neighbor has complained about he whining and barking when left alone or locked in the laundry room at night. How do we train her to be quiet?

Your puppy needs to have a lot of exercise during the day so it will sleep when confined. You can give it a stuffed kong before you confine it. You need to be patient, You’ve only had this pup for two days. This is the first time that the pup has left home and his litter mates so he is lonely. You might want to gently talk to your neighbor and ask for his patience. I also know that it can be difficult to live next door to a crying puppy. Hopefully the puppy isn’t being left all alone for 8+ hours a day. Hopefully someone is coming home at noon to let the puppy out and give it attention. At this age it is more about management then training. Instead of locking the dog in the laudry room at night, crate him in someone’s bed room. This way he won’t be lonely and noisy.
